On premise Hyperion Planning and early versions of PBCS automatically linked accounts across plan types. To disable this default behavior administrators were required to assign each non linked account with a UDA of HSP_Nolink.
Oracle planning now allows you to globally disable this function in the Application settings. Set the “Link Accounts by Default” setting to “No” to disable any linking of accounts across plan types.

Do you have EPM Automate running for you automated EPM Processes? A good rule of thumb is to make sure and add an "Upgrade" process to your first step. Oracle will on occasion create updates to this utility and with a simple command of "EPMAutomate upgrade" you can ensure that your utility is up to date. If you're version of EPM Automate is up to date, then nothing will happen and it'll move forward to the next process.

Pro Tip 7

If you ever struggle with the traditional Calc Scripts of Essbase in the Oracle EPM Cloud suite spend some time looking at the Custom Defined Functions such as @CalcMgr and @CalcMgrExcel. Often times these calculations are overlooked by traditional implementations because of the lack of literature and examples of them. However, these functions are perfect for complex date logic when date fields are used in EPBCS or any of the EPM tools. They can help identify entered day, month, or year, calculate differences in time, tell you the current date and even account for leap years. So the next time you're struggling with date logic consider these calculation functions.

Recently Oracle introduced new functionality to allow Drill-Through to the Data Management Landing Page from PBCS Data Forms and Smart View Ad-hoc to Excel. Previously, the only option was to the web browser. The functionality is available via the Options Ribbon, Advanced tab. The setting is called “Drill-Through Launch” and you can either force it to Excel by selecting "In New Sheet" or have it prompt you by selecting "Prompt Me to Choose Target". Personally, I like the second option because your not forced into one option. You can choose the "In Web Browser" if you want to check the drill to source or check mapping details or Excel if you want to do Excel analysis on the detail values.

Pro Tip 5

Getting timeout errors in Smart View? Tired of the screen flickering when retrieving data. Built into Smart View are optimizations that could help.

Go to Smart View-> Help-> Health Check.

Health Check provides a menu with recommended settings. Try them out and see if it helps with your Smart View performance issues!

Pro Tip 4

"Leverage the EPM Automate utility to keep your environments in sync:
- The 'Recreate' command restores an environment to a clean state.
- The 'Copysnapshotfrominstance’ command allows the move of an artifact snapshot across cloud instances (i.e. PROD to TEST).
- The 'ImportSnapshot' command imports the contents of a snapshot into the target service environment.
By using EPM Automate you'll avoid any potential browser timeout or file size issues, and you can automate the process by using a task scheduler."

Pro Tip 2

To avoid long calculation scripts in Oracle EPM use the Name, Caption, Description and Comment fields in Calculation Manager. This will avoid all the remarked out comments and make the comprehension of the rule easier to understand. When you print the rule using these fields will make it much more organized and better for documentation.

Pro Tip 3

Want to see web forms calculate immediately in Planning & EPBCS? In the Form Designer select the "Enable Autosave" feature to aggregate children to their parents on the form.

Pro Tip 1

Always make sure your test environment and your production environment look slightly different to ensure what application you’re working in.  A quick recommendation is to change the background color of your test environment to distinguish it from production.  In the Cloud you can simply Tools > Appearance and change the Theme color to something different.
